For the period 2020-2023:

LC is the Director of the Centre for Gambling Research at UBC, which is supported by funding from the Province of British Columbia government and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to the University of British Columbia. The BCLC is a Canadian Crown Corporation. The terms of this funding maintain the academic independence of the Centre’s research, and there are no constraints on publishing. LC holds federal funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (Discovery Grant scheme: RGPIN-2017-04069, RGPIN-2023-03528).

LC has received travel expenses from Scientific Affairs (Germany), the International Center for Responsible Gaming (US) and the Institut fur Glucksspiel und Gesellschaft (Germany). LC has received honoraria for academic services and consultancy from Scientific Affairs (Germany), International Center for Responsible Gaming (US), GambleAware (UK), Gambling Research Australia, and Gambling Research Exchange Ontario (Canada). LC has been remunerated for legal consultancy by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

LC has presented at conferences and meetings that received some funding from the gambling industry, and has reviewed research grant applications for research bodies funded directly and indirectly by funds from the gambling industry and government agencies.

LC has received royalties from Cambridge Cognition Ltd (UK) from a licensed neurocognitive test.

LC has not received any other direct or indirect payments from the gambling industry or any other groups substantially funded by gambling to conduct research or to speak at conferences or events.

LC receives an honorarium for his role as Co-Editor-in-Chief for International Gambling Studies from Taylor & Francis, and has received honoraria in the past 3 years for former editorial roles at Current Addiction Reports (Springer-Nature) and Addiction (Wiley).

Sally Gainsbury

SG has received direct and indirect funding since 2020 through the University of Sydney from Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group Pty Ltd, Entain Australia, Sportsbet, NSW Office of Responsible Gambling, West HQ, Brain and Mind Centre, Cambridge Health Alliance, and International Center for Responsible Gaming, West HQ.

SG has received consulting funds for providing subject matter expertise for Singapore Ministry of Health, Betcloud, NZ BlueCloud, UK Behavioural Insights Team, KPMG, QBE, Coms Systems Limited, Advance Gaming (NZ) Limited, GambleAware, Star Entertainment, GREO, Senet, Crown Law NZ, and Norths Collective.

SG has received honorarium and/or travel costs for presentations for Cyprus National Betting Authority, Asian Racing Federation, Leagues Club Australia, Australian Cricketers Association, Star Entertainment, CAMH, Behavioural Insights Team, National Council on Problem Gambling, GambleAware, GREO, Informa, European Lotteries Association, Senet, International Society for Behavioral Addictions, and Washington State Council.

SG holds unpaid appointments as an invited member on the NSW Independent Panel on Gambling Reform, is the Pillar Champion for Technology and Environment for the QLD Responsible Gambling Advisory Committee, is a board member for the Asian Racing Federation Council on Anti-Illegal Betting and Related Financial Crime.

SG receives an honorarium for her role as Co-Editor-in-Chief for International Gambling Studies from Taylor & Francis.

Alex Blaszczynski

For the period 2017 – 2020, Professor Blaszczynski has conducted research funded directly by Australian or international government, or government-related funding agencies, and industry operators. These include ClubsNSW, National Association for Gambling Studies, Gaming Technologies Association, Office of Responsible Gambling, NSW Government, Aristocrat Leisure Industries, Australian Communications Media Authority, Responsible Wagering Australia, and Commonwealth Bank. He is on the responsible gambling advisory panel for Crown Casino.

He has received honorariums from Manitoba Gambling Research Program and GambleAware (formerly UK Responsible Gambling Trust) for grant reviews, and royalties from several publishers for books and book chapters. He has also received travel and accommodation expenses from International Association of Gambling Regulators, Leagues Clubs, Japan Medical Society for Behavioural Addiction, Le Comité d'organisation Congrès international sur les troubles addictifs, Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, and GambleAware, to attend conferences and meetings.

All professional dealings have been conducted with the aim of enhancing responsible gambling and harm minimisation policies and practices, training counsellors in the treatment interventions, and advancing our understanding of the psychology of gambling.

Tobias Hayer

I do not hold any ongoing position, receive ongoing or significant funding, and am not engaged in any business or organisation that creates a conflict of interest (real, perceived, actual or potential) in the work I would conduct as Regional Assistant Editor of International Gambling Studies. I have had no financial professional dealings with the gambling industry over the last three years.

Within this time frame, I have received grants for gambling research from the Senate for Health, Women and Consumer Protection of Bremen, the Ministry of the Interior of Lower Saxony, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Joint Gambling Authority of the State (German gambling regulator). Amongst others, I am a selected member of an Advisory Board pursuant to Section 10 of the State Treaty on Gambling Administrative Agreement as well as the Scientific Board of Trustees of the German Center for Addiction Issues. My professional work is entirely committed to the prevention of gambling-related problems and the strengthening of player protection measures.

Ruth J. van Holst

Hyoun S. (Andrew) Kim

David Ledgerwood

For the period 2020 – 2023, Dr. Ledgerwood has conducted research funded directly by the National Institutes of Health (United States), Manitoba Liquor and Lottery Corporation (Canada), Licensing and Regulatory Affairs branch of the State of Michigan, Helene Lycaki/Joe Young Sr. funds – Michigan (United States), and the Detroit-Wayne Integrated Health Network (United States).

He has received honorariums and/or consulting payments from the American Psychological Association, Yale University, the US National Institutes of Health, Arizona Department of Gaming, Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, Michigan Society of Behavioral Medicine, Morneau-Shepell, National Institutes of Health, Oklahoma Association on Problem and Compulsive Gambling, State of California, University of California- Los Angeles.

All grants and honorarium were received in the service of conducting health research in the addictions, conducting peer review (grant review or journal editorships) or providing training for clinicians and policy makers in the assessment and treatment of gambling problems. Dr. Ledgerwood has not received funding directly from the gaming industry during this timeframe.

Núria Mallorquí-Bagué

Sarah Nelson

For the period 2020 – 2023, Dr. Nelson has worked on projects that have received funding support through her institution from DraftKings, Inc. (a sports betting and gaming company), Entain PLC (a sports betting and gambling company), EPIC Risk Management, the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (a not-for-profit organization founded and funded by a group of distillers), Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Problem Gambling Services via Health Resources in Action, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Institutes of Health (National Institutes of General Medical Sciences, and Drug Abuse, and Mental Health) via The Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations.

During this period, Dr. Nelson has served as a paid grant reviewer for the New Frontiers in Research Fund (Government of Canada), International Center for Responsible Gaming, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She has also received travel reimbursement and speaker honoraria from the ICRG and speaker honoraria from the Responsible Gaming Association of New Mexico. She has received publication royalty fees from the American Psychological Association, and received course royalty fees from the Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education.

José César Perales

Steve Sharman

My current role at King's College London is funded by a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF). I am also currently Co-Investigator on two further grants, from the NIHR, and from Greo. I am also Principal Investigator on an additional grant from Greo. Prior to my FLF, my position at KCL was funded through a King's Prize Fund Fellowship, and before this, through the NIHR’s Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health.

Between November 2017 and 2020, I was employed as a Research Fellow within the School of Psychology at the University of East London (UEL). This position is funded by a Griffith Edwards Academic Fellowship, awarded by the Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA).

Between August 2015 and November 2017, I was employed at the University of Lincoln, a position funded by an internal university award, the Research Investment Fund. I received a small grant for PPI from the NIHR in relation to a study investigating gambling in primary care (2016). I received a small grant from GambleAware to investigate cognitive distortions in homeless gamblers (2015).
