Aims and scope

The European Zoological Journal (previously Italian Journal of Zoology) publishes research on basic, comparative and applied protozoan and animal biology.

An open access journal published on behalf of the Italian Society of Zoologists (Unione Zoologica Italiana)

The European Zoological Journal aims to be the premier Zoological journal globally, increasing international readership and becoming more accessible to a wider audience.

The journal publishes research on the following topics:

  • Protozoan and animal biology at molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, organismal, population, and community-ecosystem level.
  • Research on multiple levels of organization and integrative approaches to study animal form, function, development, ecology, evolution and systematics

The journal publishes regular articles, invited reviews, and short commentaries (four printed pages or less). Abstracts and Conference proceedings approved by the UZI Executive Committee are also featured in the journal on an ad-hoc basis.

The journal operates a double anonymized peer review policy.

All articles will be made freely and permanently available online through gold open access publication.
