Abstract
BuildingSMART, a not-for-profit international organisation with 20 self-governing chapters covering 25 countries, has taken on the difficult task of promoting digital interoperability in a way that will allow the whole of the global construction industry to work together. CRI checked in to see how it was going.

Another key BuildingSMART file type is the IDM (information delivery manual), also known as the IDS (information delivery specification); this explains what actions have to be taken with an asset throughout its life, together with the information needed to carry them out.
