Sparkling Performance For Informa's Pharmaceutical Science Journals

Impressive Growth, High World Rankings and a Comprehensive Portfolio of Highly-Respected Journals Makes for Healthy Business at Informa Healthcare.

The Pharmaceutical Science division of Informa Healthcare – one of the world’s leading medical and scientific publishing groups – has announced highlights of its latest Journal Impact Factor results, with impressive results across the division’s range of titles. Critical Reviews in Toxicology – currently ranked second out of 77 titles in the competitive Toxicology category – registered an IF increase of 39% to 5.145; Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Science is ranked first in the Medical Lab Technology category; and Annals of Medicine – now ranked tenth in its sector – is making gains with an increase of more than 20% over the year to 5.779.

Impact Factors are a method of measuring the influence which a journal has on the scientific community. They are calculated by Thomson Reuters and are designed to indicate how many times the published articles of a journal are cited during the course of a year, providing an insight to how much ‘impact’ the journal is making on its audiences.

Informa’s results, across its wide range of Pharmaceutical Science titles, are remarkable: International Reviews of Immunology is up 92% to 3.595; Cytotherapy is up 64% to 3.553; Journal of Liposome Research has recorded a 95% increase to 2.021; Chronobiology International is up 47% to 3.707; and Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets is up 25% to 3.333. Overall, Impact Factors across the division’s range of 41 titles are up 7.3% year-on-year.

“Impact Factors provide us with a measure for the importance of our journals to the medical and scientific communities we serve,” explains Phil Garner, Publisher at Informa Pharmaceutical Science. “We are delighted with the performance of our market leading titles as well as some new journals which have posted excellent first time results.”

“Our Expert Opinion range of titles – which provides in-depth analysis of the pharmaceutical R&D pipeline – has registered impressive gains on Therapeutic Targets, Investigational Drugs, Biological Therapy and Therapeutic Patents with Expert Opinion on Emerging Drugs presenting a first-ever IF of 2.725,” says Phil. “These results give a big ‘thumbs up’ to the comprehensive, intelligent content which make these titles the definitive reference source for leading pharmaceutical scientists.”

Another new Informa title to enter the market with a remarkable impact was the International Journal of Pediatric Obesity, which registered an impressive IF of 2.00 in its first year in the market.

“We are justifiably proud of the performance of all of our journals,” adds Phil. “Our new titles have done very well and our established journals have continued to move from strength to strength, with many moving many places up in their respective rankings.”

A fine example of this is the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry. ANZJP is now the leading psychiatry journal of the Asia-Pacific region and the fourth highest cited journal – in all disciplines – in Australia, with an IF of 2.57, a world ranking of 39 and year-on-year growth of more than 26%.

“Our overall performance – together with the outstanding individual performances of many of our titles – ensures that informa continues to serve as a leading force in medical and scientific publishing, providing the market with the lion’s share of must-read titles,” explains Phil.
