British Forum for Ethnomusicology

(BFE) is proud to be home to a vibrant and growing community of academics, scholars and students interested in the field of ethnomusicology. We have an international membership community (membership is open to all interested parties located anywhere in the world) which has increased steadily over the past few years. According to our latest figures, we have over two hundred overseas and UK members, as well as a substantial and expanding institutional subscriber base.

Students/unwaged: 

£20/€24/US $31

Anyone in full-time education or currently without regular income*

Regular: 

£32/€38/US $50

Anyone earning a regular salary below the enhanced rate

Enhanced: 

£46/€54/US $72

Anyone earning a salary above £43k/€50k/US$65k

*Proof of student ID may be required from time to time.


The subscription year for all members runs from January to December. If you are joining part-way through a calendar year, your membership will count for the current year and you will receive all of the journal issues relating to that year.

Please note that renewal reminders are sent out to existing members from September, to allow sufficient time for administration.

Members of the British Forum for Ethnomusicology enjoy the following benefits:

Student members attending a BFE conference to present a paper may apply for a bursary to help with travel costs. They are also eligible to submit their work to the
