Amorfix announces vCJD blood test breakthrough
Canada's Amorfix Life Sciences has announced a breakthrough in the development of a blood test for variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). The Toronto-based specialist in diagnostics, theranostics and therapies for a range of neurodegenerative diseases has reported 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for its EP-vCJD test in a second blinded trial of human blood samples, in collaboration with the UK's National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC).
The successful completion of testing with both fresh and frozen human plasma, as validated by the NIBSC, paves the way for large-scale testing of the diagnostic.
