Bioactive Flavonoid Glycosides from the Seeds of Rosa canina

Abstract

Preparative RP-HPLC analysis of a methanol extract of the seeds of Rosa canina yielded kaempferol 3- O -(6?- O-E-p -coumaroyl)-ß-D-glucopyranoside and kaempferol 3- O -(6?- O-Z-p -coumaroyl)-ß-D-glucopyranoside. Structures of these compounds were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses. Bioactivity, i.e., antibacterial and antioxidant activity and general toxicity, of these compounds were also determined.
