Priya Vashist

PRIYA VASHIST is an Indian-American filmmaker and educator. Priya is an assistant professor of Film at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Priya’s film work focuses on social justice and representation of ethnic and gendered minorities, especially telling impactful stories about queer South Asians on screen. She works in various genres and styles of filmmaking including narrative, documentary, and experimental films. Priya’s films have won awards and screened at prestigious festivals such as Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival, and film conferences such as University Film and Video Association (UFVA). Priya serves as a board member and the director of film programming at Virginia Queer Film Festival.
