TEKSLINGUISTIEK EN TEKSVERSORGING

Abstract

In hierdie artikel word gepoog om aan te toon dat dit moontlik is dat teorie en praktyk versoen kan word, en in wese interafhanklik is. Die tekslinguistiek as teoretiese dissipline word eerstens kortliks uiteengesit. Teksversorging word daarna as praktyksterrein van naderby bekyk, Die hoofdoel van die artikel is om aan te toon in watter mate kennis van die tekslinguistiek sal bydra om die taak van die teksversorger te vergemaklik. Ten slotte word daar beredeneer dat kennis van die tekslinguistiek 'n noodsaaklike onderdeel is in die opleiding van teksversorgers.

In this article an effort is made to show that theory and practice are reconcilable, and that they are in an important sense interdependent. Text linguistics as a theoretical discipline is first explained and this is followed by a short discussion of what text editing entails. The main aim of the article is to show how knowledge of text linguistics can benefit the text editor. In conclusion it is argued that an understanding of text linguistics should be a key goal in the training of text editors.
