Abstract
The calculation of the radiation force on a nano-particle confining excitonic center-of-mass motion is done by using Maxwell's stress tensor expressed in terms of the microscopic response field. As a result, it has been clarified that the exerted acceleration on the particle by the resonant light is greatly enhanced for the radius less than 100 nm. Furthermore, we have found the useful effects for the optical manipulation sensitively depending on the properties of individual particles through their quantum structure. Such results are expected to be a driving force for developing a new type of optical manipulation that explicitly uses the quantum mechanical properties of nanoscopic objects.
