Investigating the Impact of Task-Oriented, Relationship-Oriented, and Innovation-Oriented Leadership Competencies on Project Success in Pakistan: A Moderated Model of Multi-Dimensional Senior Management Support

Pages 42-65 | Published online: 28 Mar 2023

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of multi-dimensional senior management support on the relationship between clusters of leadership competencies and the success of public sector projects. Survey data were collected from 197 project managers/directors of public sector projects in Pakistan. The findings reveal a positive relationship between task-oriented, relationship-oriented, and innovation-oriented competencies, project success, and all five dimensions of senior management support. Furthermore, the relationships between clusters of leadership competencies and project success are not strengthened in the presence of providing resources, communication, expertise, and power, whereas structural arrangements strengthen the relationship between innovation-oriented leadership competencies and project success.
