Abstract

The spatial and temporal thermal response of skin and malignant tissues under the influence of microwave irradiation at different powers and frequencies is investigated using both the analytical and finite difference time domain methods. Given that the microwave heating process is highly dependent on the physical characteristics of the tissue; therefore, the temperature and frequency dependence of the tissue conductivity and permittivity are considered to estimate the temperature distribution inside the biological tissue for hyperthermia treatment. The results show how the appropriate microwave frequency range can be selected to enhance the hyperthermia efficiency. This study may open an avenue for obtaining appropriate microwave parameters for hyperthermia treatment.
