Gordon Forster Essay Prize 2023

The Editor is pleased to announce that Murray Seccombe (Independent Scholar) is the winner of the 2023 Gordon Forster Essay Prize, for an essay entitled ‘“My charges about the highways”: Constables and Infrastructure, Sowerby, 1629–1694’.

The following three essays are Highly Commended:

Callum Jamieson (University of Glasgow), ‘Cura nos monet: A Papal Letter of Grace on Papal Judges-Delegate for Hugh du Puiset, Bishop of Durham’.

Christopher Toole (University of Leeds), ‘Dislocation in Coley: An Examination of Rev. Oliver Heywood’s Experience of Religious Persecution after the Restoration, 1660–1666’.

Angus Wallace (University of Leeds), ‘A Community of Consent: Conscientious Objectors on the North Yorkshire Moors and the North East Coast during the First World War’.
