Abstract

Librarianship is among the professions that are genderized in the attainment of leadership positions in Nigeria. Working at the intersection of gender and leadership, this study investigated genderization and the struggle of Nigerian women academic librarians for leadership positions in librarianship. The participants in the study were the librarians in public higher institutions in the South-west, Nigeria. A questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. The study submitted that for women and men to have equal opportunity in reaching leadership positions in librarianship, the philosophy of equality must be embedded within the societal and cultural settings of the people.
