Final issue of IDA Journal of Desalination and Water Reuse

IDA has been reviewing a number of activities and we regret to advise this will be the final issue of the IDA Journal after six years of operation.

The world of publishing is competitive. It was IDA's intention to serve its members with an international specialist journal on desalination research that was respected and quickly developed a high impact factor.

However, the requisite number of original manuscripts for publication was not forthcoming to achieve the impact factor for the fledgling journal, which required significant subsidy from members’ funds. After considerable effort to make the journal viable, the IDA's Publications Committee recommended to the Board that publication cease as of December 2015.

IDA is a broad assemblage of researchers, constructors, project managers, financiers, manufacturers, and marketers. The strength of the IDA is its ability to bring together people from all aspects of the industry. Other organisations attract and provide specialist services to the academic community including high impact learned journals; IDA is unique in its ability to provide information to its members’ broad interests. This is done principally through our World Congresses and new Water Recycling and Reuse conference held every two years as well as specialty technical conferences and other educational initiatives. All technical papers, both platform and poster, from all World Congresses are available to members through the IDA website. This collection is indeed a treasure trove of expert knowledge and information to our members. Back issues of the IDA Journal are also available through this avenue. We publish a newsletter six times a year, and our associated technical magazine Desalination and Water Reuse, published by Faversham House, comes out every quarter.

IDA is working on developing positive relationships with alternative high impact journals for those in IDA who are looking to publish their work, and affordable access to such publications for our members.

The Publications Committee is grateful to Dr Jim Birkett and Prof. Isabel Escobar who served as Editors of the IDA Journal, and members of the editorial board. All put exceptional effort in to creating a high quality publication.
