ABSTRACT
In a continuing climate of “Not In My Backyard” (NIMBY), a mobile medication approach to expanding treatment services for individuals suffering from opioid addiction has proven to be effective and efficient. Due to NIMBY, this approach is not just a way to expand treatment services, but in many situations it represents the only way. Research has borne out the efficacy of partnerships between mobile medication programs and existing community agencies in an urban setting. Demonstration projects have yielded anecdotal data regarding the value of this approach in suburban and rural areas as well. This paper will highlight some issues for consideration in determining if this approach will meet the needs of your substance abuse treatment system.
