Critical Reader in Central Asian Studies: 40 Years of Central Asian Survey
The Critical Reader in Central Asian Studies was published in 2022 to mark the 40th anniversary of Central Asian Survey. The volume features excerpts of selected articles from the journal over the last forty years. The book consists of nine thematic sections (history, identity and nationalism, Islam, governing and the state, informal institutions, contentious politics, gender, everyday life, and regional and global perspectives) and a critical introduction for each section written by young scholars, most from the Central Asian region. While the published volume only contains excerpts from the articles, this collection has been created to bring together the full-length original versions of all the articles which feature in the critical reader. Free access available to all articles during 2022.
