This symposium reflects upon Madhav Khosla’s recent book, India’s Founding Moment: The Constitution of a Most Surprising Democracy (Harvard University Press, 2020). The participants – Faisal Devji, Jan-Werner Müller, Lucia Rubinelli, Mahmood Mamdani, Sudipta Kaviraj – use the book as an opportunity to revisit the making of modern India and the global spread of democracy. The symposium includes a response essay by Khosla.
