Empowering Refugee Educators: Education in Emergency, Displacement, and Migration Contexts
By the end of 2020, more than 33 million children worldwide had been forcibly displaced from their homes.1 Whether seeking shelter outside their home country or domestically, many of these children confront serious traumas when adapting to their new and often fluid situations. In light of so many impactful shifts, a safe and secure learning environment can be a beacon of hope for children in displacement contexts.
This collection is inspired by the bold education leaders and practitioners who are working hard to understand and address the needs of children in these contexts. Childhood Education International has compiled 10 articles that provide insight into the challenges young refugees face and how educators can support them.
This collection also commemorates CE International’s recent acquisition of the Center for Learning in Practice (CLiP). One highlight of CLiP’s work is the Refugee Educator Academy, a learning network designed to support and offer sustainable, holistic learning opportunities to teachers working in refugee displacement, migration, and resettlement contexts.
