Waseda University is a leading private, non-profit institution of higher education based in central Tokyo, with over 50,000 students in 13 undergraduate and 20 graduate schools. Founded in 1882, Waseda cherishes three guiding principles: academic independence, practical innovation and the education of enlightened citizens. Established to mold future leaders, Waseda continues to fulfill this mission, counting among its alumni seven prime ministers and countless other politicians, business leaders, journalists, diplomats, scholars, scientists, actors, writers, athletes and artists.

Waseda Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies (WICCS) is a member of the Comprehensive Research Organization (CRO), a coordinative body that promotes cross-disciplinary collaborative research projects across Waseda University. WICCS conducts research that covers political, economic and social development in Greater China.

The Waseda Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (WIAPS) was established in July 1997 in order to contribute to the peace and development of the Asia-Pacific region and global society. The Institute aims to construct a research and education network as well as become a source of abundant research results and information in diverse fields in the regional contexts.
