The National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) is a membership organization of U.S. and international teachers, professors, students, businesses, and others who believe that geography is an essential part of formal, informal, and lifelong education. Geography education offers breadth and depth of knowledge about our physical and cultural world and analytical spatial skills that are critical for decision-making in our complex society.

Since 1915, the NCGE has worked to enhance the status and quality of Geography teaching and learning, by:

• Promoting the importance and value of Geography education;
• Enhancing the professional development of Geography educators with respect to content knowledge, techniques, and learning processes;
• Fostering communication among Geography educators;
• Supporting and publishing research on Geography education;
• Developing, publishing, and promoting supportive curricular materials and other resources;
• Partnering with other organizations that have similar goals.
