Association information

The Associazione per la Scienza e le Produzioni Animali (ASPA) is a scientific, non-profit association constituted in the year 1973 with the appellation of Associazione Scientifica di Produzione Animale.

All persons whose principal activity involves study and research in the various fields of animal science and animal production can be eligible for membership.

The objective of ASPA should be to advance the progress of sciences and technologies involving animal production through:

  • promotion of research activities in the different sectors of animal science and animal production;
  • organization of congresses, meetings, seminars, conferences and workshops for professionals involved in scientific research in the zootechnical field, as well as the promotion of contacts among national and international Associations involved in similar sectors with the aim of coordinating activities to achieve common objectives;
  • publication and diffusion of scientific documents and articles in the field of zootechnics;
  • discussion of the problems regarding teaching and education in zootechnics and related sciences in Italian Schools, chiefly Universities;
  • collaboration with public and private organizations that operate for the progress of the animal sciences;
  • development and support of any other scientific and/or cultural venture that might be useful in attaining the objectives of the Association.

The Board of Governors of the Association consists of the President and four members elected every three years. The current President is Prof. Bruno Ronchi (University of Viterbo) and the Board results composed of the following officers:

  • Prof. Niccolò Pietro Paolo Macciotta (President, University of Sassari)
  • Prof. Lucia Bailoni (Vice President, University of Padova)
  • Prof. Massimo Trabalza Marinucci (Secretary-Treasurer, University of Perugia)
  • Prof. Luca Battaglini (Member, University of Torino)
  • Prof. Gianluca Neglia (Member, University of Napoli)
  • and Past President, Prof. Bruno Ronchi (University of Tuscia)

Prof. Rosanna Scipioni (University of Modena-Reggio Emilia) is Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Italian Journal of Animal Science, and past Editor-in-Chief.

Prof. Marcello Mele (University of Pisa) is invited by right to attend the Board’s meetings as Editor-in-Chief of Italian Journal of Animal Science

Prof. Marcella Avondo (University of Catania) is delegated by the President for the ASPA Newsletter, into the website of the Association, and for relationships with press.
