ABSTRACT
Y chromosome short tandem repeat (Y-STR) within the male-specific part of the human has gained considerable attention in population genetics and forensic investigations. In this study, a novel Y-STR panel developed in-house, which allows co-amplification of 41 Y-STR loci plus 3 Indels in a 6-dye configuration, was used to genotype 74 unrelated Chinese Han males (Shandong, China). A total of 318 alleles could be detected, and the allelic frequencies ranged from 0.0135 to 0.7703. The haplotype diversity and discrimination capacity values were both 1. The gene diversity of 41 Y-STR loci ranged from 0.1037 (DYS645) to 0.9733 (DYS385a/b) in the studied group. The results indicated that the panel possesses high discriminatory capability and exhibits considerable polymorphism in the studied populations.
