Pages 565-569 | Published online: 10 Jul 2014

Summary

The study of charcoal from lake sediments in the depression of Fachi (18°18′N/11°33′E) allows a reconstitution of the vegetation for that part of the Central Sahara around 7000 B.P. At the edge of the lake, dense woodland or forest formations were growing, consisting of Sudanian elements. Comparison with anthracological and palynological data from other parts of the Sahara suggests parallel shifts of the climatic and vegetation belts.
