Pages 609-616 | Published online: 10 Jul 2014

Summary

After the big deforestation in the Middle Age, the forested Massif of Hortus plateau (South of France, Hérault Country) was marked for five centuries (XIVe-XVIIIe) by the development and the growth of glassmaking works.

The systematic Inventory of the place detected the presence of charcoal-kilns. According to oral inquiries, a few were in operation in the first half of the XXth century (1962). However, only archaeological excavations will enable us to date the whole site accurately.
