Summary

The fill-in of the defense trench of a moat of the 14th century at Serris (Seine-et-Marne) has been found to be wet and rich in organic finds. The analyses of the collected wood-finds and the sieved charcoals compared with the palynological data permits certain conclusions in the relation man-wood. The ensemble of the analyses reflect the general presence of fruit-trees and the existence on the site of a walnut-tree. There is little processed wood and there is no beech-or ash-wood present in the 14th c. trench. Contrary to this, beech is found in the charcoals of fills of other nearby structures. This diversity allows to approach in a diachronic way the exploitation of the environmental habitat which had little fire-wood.
