We thank the reviewers who evaluated submissions to the journal in both 2021 and 2022 and the Editorial Board (listed on the Canadian Water Resources Association and Canadian Water Resources Journal websites) for their vital service to the journal. Everyone’s efforts ensure the Canadian Water Resources Journal maintains the requisite high level of quality. The co-editors are very appreciative for all the work associate editors and reviewers performed for the Journal during these last two years. As with many scientific journals, finding reviewers and providing authors with timely feedback is challenging. We are addressing these issues by working with Taylor & Francis to improve our manuscript management system. The slowing of the review process has meant we had to combine some issues. We have made efforts to increase the number of papers submitted for review to the journal by introducing two special issues for 2023. The first focuses on water temperature. The second commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Water Resources Association with a series of retrospective articles summarizing different aspects of Canadian water management.

The articles published in 2021 and 2022 in the Canadian Water Resources Journal highlight the many water resource management issues in Canada. The variety of subjects covered by papers over these two years are representative of the diversity of challenges faced by water managers across the country. Articles addressed issues and research related to water quality, drought, floods, hydrological prediction, water economics, wetland drainage, environmental flows, limnology, governance and groundwater.

The Editorial Board strives to ensure the Journal remains relevant to members of the Canadian Water Resources Association and the broader Canadian water resources community. We believe that in doing so, we are achieving the priority goals of the Canadian Water Resources Association by improving communication across the water resource community and improving understanding of water and integrated water management. The prospect for continued success in meeting these goals via the Canadian Water Resources Journal in 2021 is reflected in its publication metrics. The impact factor continues to increase, climbing to 2.0 in 2021. Readership of the journal continues to grow, up to 160,000 downloaded articles in 2021. We will strive to ensure that this trend continues, while upholding high review standards.
