María Gainza
María Gainza (Buenos Aires, 1975) has been a regular contributor to Artforum. She wrote for Página/12’s Radar supplement and has taught courses for artists. Her first novel was El nervio óptico (2014; Optic Nerve, 2020). Her detective novel La luz negra (2018; Portrait of an Unknown Lady, 2022) deals with the art market and forgery through the lives of four women. She received the 2019 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz prize for La luz negra, whose unpublished acceptance speech is included here. She has published two nonfiction collections, Textos elegidos 2003-2010 (2011; Selected Texts), and Una vida crítica (2020; A Critical Life), which includes the second part of her essay.
Thomas Bunstead
Thomas Bunstead has translated Agustín Fernández Mallo, Enrique Vila-Matas, and Rodrigo Blanco Calderón, among others. He is currently a Royal Literary Fellow, teaching at Swansea University.
