ABSTRACT

This review has described factors affecting a particular situation in Poland, current opportunities and challenges in the implementation and recognition of Polish red cattle (PRC) as beef production. This knowledge may be are an essential tool as part of strategic planning in this context. PRC are one of the few red cattle breeds indigenous in Europe. Several desirable features characterize them: high disease resistance, good health and fertility, longevity, the nutritional value of milk and meat and disadvantageous - very low milk productivity. Currently, by implementing the new - meat direction of PRC, breeders who keep this breed for dairy purposes do not experience problems with selling cattle suckers for further breeding for meat purposes, which is financially reasonable.
