1 We also note that although the two classes of theories emphasize different antecedents (behavior versus interests), behavior in the former is the result of interests and interests in the latter are reflected in behavior. Thus, for example, the counter-attitudinal behavior which leads to attitude change in dissonance theory is induced by appealing to people’s interests, and interests in social choice theory are expressed in behavior (revealed preference).

2 For example, in the section that compares Alliance Theory to Intolerance Theory, PSH cite about 20 papers in support of symmetry, and only one (Ganzach & Schul, Citation2021) in support of asymmetry.
