Welcome to this issue and to 2024.

The last volume (2023) included invited editorials on a range of important topics from exploring what good and innovative research looks like and understanding the net gain principle for health in spatial planning through to focusing on the wellbeing of boys and men, healthy ageing and health promoting sports clubs with authors, some of whom are members of the Journal’s International Advisory Board, drawing on their expertise in health promotion and education. This will continue throughout the current volume this year and with the editorial in the next issue arguing for adequate and affordable housing to benefit health, education and economic opportunities and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all authors who have chosen to publish in the International Journal of Health Promotion. The journal provides a valuable platform to draw attention to and showcase important and innovative research relevant to our far-reaching, global audience and to advocate for change at all levels. In addition, and equally important, a huge ‘thank you’ to all of the reviewers who continue to contribute to the rigorous processes that ensure high-quality research is published in the journal.

I hope that you enjoy reading the first five articles in this first issue of 2024 and I look forward to receiving your new manuscripts throughout the year. Please do contact me if you have any queries regarding your submission and as ever, I continue to welcome your suggestions for the journal.
