Abstract
This article aims to investigate the influence of nanoparticles on mechanical and nondestructive properties of high-performance concrete (HPC). For this purpose, nano-SiO2 (NS), which chemically prepared as well nanofly ash (NFA), nanosilica fume (NSF) and nanocoal (NC), prepared by mechanical grinding, have been added to concrete mixtures. NS was added in four percentages (1, 2, 3 and 4%) of weight of cementitious materials whereas NFA, NS and NC were added in six percentages (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6%). Mechanical properties have been investigated through the compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strength. Nondestructive test has been investigated through ultrasonic pulse velocity test on concrete. Results of this study showed that 4% replacement of cementitious materials by NFA and NSF is the highest improvement in mechanical properties and nondestructive properties, whereas the optimum results for NC at 2% for mechanical grinded materials. The best result of NS was at 3% of weight of cementitious materials. This indicates that the NFA is effective such as nano-SiO2, which chemically prepared. Nanoparticle is contributing in the improvement of mechanical properties of HPC.
