Acknowledgements

I would like to acknowledge those who have been a part of Tapuya’s editorial project since it came into being, and who have chosen to continue to support this endeavor in different capacities. Leandro Rodriguez-Medina (former Editor-in-Chief) and the Editorial Board entrusted me with a treasure, one that Leandro has continued to care for (now as Chief Financial Officer) by ensuring that the journal is financially supported while I concentrate on the academic mission and editorial tasks. The incorporation of James Griesemer as Senior Advisor has been important not only for – in his own words – “shifting standpoints and perspectives on what is center and what is periphery” in our field, but also for recognizing Jim’s long trajectory as a supporter of innovative STS, of which Tapuya is a sample. I thank the core editorial office members for providing my current editorship with a sense of continuity while being open to new leadership styles – and new team members; I am in awe of their skill and verve. The recognition of Tapuya with the STS Infrastructure Prize by the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) is even more meaningful at a time when there is a minority of US-based editors of 4S-affiliated journals. There is a sense of community among the editors of all 4S-affiliated journals that substantiates the feeling that this is an exciting time to publish STS research, and that Tapuya has a special place in this project. I am also grateful for the endorsement of the Latin American Association for Social Studies of Science and Technology, ESOCITE. Our mutual support and exchanges (Tapuya’s participation in the Doctoral School and promotion of ESOCITE’s activities and publications in our website) have contributed to strengthen and visibilize Latin American STS. Thanks are also due to our sponsors: the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, the Luskin School of Public Affairs, and the Latin American Institute, all at UCLA, have generously supported the journal. The unconditional support of an anonymous private donor makes possible the existence of an editorial office in Mexico and of our editorial work as a form of care for our authors. The members of Tapuya’s Editorial Board and Advisory Board have donated valuable intellectual resources to the journal, which are all the more valuable when these resources are scarce, and demand is relentless. I thank you all.

Website and social media engagements through Tapuya.org, @TapuyaLASTS, Facebook and LinkedIn, have extended our reach and expanded our community. We appreciate these interactions, which validate our ongoing efforts to procure an online presence as a way to promote our mission and support our authors. I appreciate the work of Justin Robinson and Alistair Meier at Taylor & Francis, who make collaboration with an international publisher manageable. Finally, I want to thank the global STS community for submitting to the journal, for reviewing papers, for reading articles and book reviews, for citing and incorporating Tapuya publications into their research and teaching. We look forward to continuing to be a forum for your work and a source of inspiration.
