THE WIN-WIN OF EUROPEAN UNION ENLARGEMENT

Pages 103-113 | Published online: 07 Feb 2007

ABSTRACT

Relinquishing a modicum of sovereignty albeit by joining the European Union and permitting new members to join the European Union requires both existing members and applicant members to enter negotiations. In an optimum situation such an enlargement of the European Union will result in a WIN-WIN solution or where all parties achieve better than their initial expectations. This article will utilise WIN-WIN international policy theories to evaluate the enlargement of the European Union debated towards and at the European Union Inter Governmental Conference (IGC) in Nice, France, December 2000.
