Meeting Highlights: Meeting Highlights Oncologic, Endocrine & Metabolic: 56th Annual Meeting of the American Diabetes Association San Francisco, USA, 8 – 11 July 1996

Abstract

The 56th annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association was held from 8 - 11 July in San Francisco. Registration for the meeting exceeded 6000. More than 950 presentations were made in addition to numerous symposia and award lectures. Abstracts from the meeting have been published [1], from which abstract numbers are given below, e.g., (A141). Among the most popular topics were: the recently described adipocyte secretory product, leptin; signal transduction as related to insulin action and insulin resistance; the gastrointestinal hormone, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1); and the thiazolidinedione insulin sensitising agents. A short summary of these areas is included below.
