Abstract
This year’s annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association was held in San Diego and, as in recent years, was attended by over 6000 people. The various presentations, which featured almost 1500 papers with additional symposia covering a broad range of topics, more than filed the three-and-a-half day schedule. The abstracts of the papers are published in Diabetes 48 (Suppl. 1). Expanding awareness of therapeutic need, growing knowledge in the understanding of the pathogenesis and underlying biology of diabetes and successful development and growing use of new therapeutics, are all contributing to the rapid growth seen in this area. This meeting highlight is brief review of some of the topics which were extensively covered at the meeting.
