Comparative Research of Key Technologies in Medical Record Tracing

, &

Abstract

Along with development of evidence-based medicine and the high frequency of examination of medical records, obtaining the required medical record easily and rapidly is an important link in the task of medical record management. Three kinds of medical record tracers (barcode, two-dimensional code, and RFID electronic label) are introduced into medical record management; the authors comparatively investigate the three key technologies used in medical record tracing, from the perspectives of ability to read information, capacity for storage of information, and current status of technological development, and summarize their features. The technology of the RFID electronic label is found to have significant advantages in the three aspects mentioned above. The authors investigate the superiority of integrating the technology of RFID electronic labeling with that of barcoding or two-dimensional coding in the management of medical records, to compensate for the shortcomings of each technology when used alone for medical record management; the integrated method is safer, more rapid, and valid in the management of medical record tracing.
