Lorenzo García Vega

Lorenzo García Vega (Jagüey Grande, 1926—Miami, USA, 2012) was the youngest member of the Orígenes group of poets and artists centered around José Lezama Lima. He left Cuba in 1968 and lived in Madrid, Caracas, New York City, and finally, Playa Albina (his sobriquet for Miami). His experimental, frequently obsessive, writing spans and transgresses a variety of genres, from poetry and narratives to memoirs and diaries. He was rediscovered and championed in the 1980s by a younger generation of Latin American writers. The following poems are taken from the anthology Labyrinth: Selected Poetry and Prose of Lorenzo García Vega (Station Hill Press, 2023), edited and translated by Christopher Winks.
