ABSTRACT

Leadership development programs (e.g. Emerging Leaders) are growing in popularity among professional counseling organizations. Using basic interpretive design, the current qualitative study included 24 counselor education doctoral students who had participated in leadership development programs. Findings address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership experiences. Themes derived through multiple rounds of coding describe lack of representation in leadership, imposter phenomenon experienced by students with marginalized identities, and barriers to leadership opportunities.
