Our range of awards aims to support and showcase better mapping by recognizing the very best cartographic work and scholarship from around the globe. We present trophies and prizes to individuals and organizations who have shown excellence in the cartographic field for work produced within the previous year. The British Cartographic Society Award
Winner: Atlas of Shanghai (2021 Version) 上海市地图集(2021版) by Wenqiang Yao, Jing Xin, Chenxi Yu, Meilan Liu, Xi Tang, Min Wang, Xin Luo, Aijun Lu, Qingwei Wang, Ying Jing, Shanghai Surveying and Mapping Institute.
Judges’ comments: ‘A very impressive, lavish work with dozens of beautiful and varied thematic maps of many types, covering a wide range of topics and a huge range of information (sometimes perhaps too much) in imaginative ways. The well-designed maps, infographics, images and other artwork all fit together well, and the excellent packaging ensures this is a complete product’.
British Cartographic Society Peter Jolly Award (New for 2022)
This award is open exclusively to BCS members for any single map or geographic data visualization in printed or digital form.

Judges’ comments: ‘Thoroughly deserved – an excellent paper that presents a rigorous empirical study of this relevant and timely issue, whose results are especially applicable to the development of digital display technologies’.
