13 Heidegger would become one of Rickert's harshest critics but it is important to remember that Heidegger wrote his dissertation at Freiburg under Rickert's direction.

14 Weber's letter is dated 11 April 1902 and the passage is ‘Rickert habe ich aus, er ist sehr gut, zum großen Teil finde ich darin Das, was ich selbst, wenn auch in logisch nicht bearbeitet Form gedacht habe.’ (Weber, Briefe 1895–1902, 826. See also similar comments in Weber's letters to Marianne from April 7 and 10, 1902). Weber's letters cast doubt on the degree of influence that Rickert had on Weber. (See Adair-Toteff, “Why Rickert?” with a more complete examination of Weber's search for method scheduled to appear in 2025.)
