Steel World Editorial 50.10

This will be the last issue but one of Ironmaking and Steelmaking published by Taylor and Francis. IOM3 have taken the decision to use SAGE Publications Ltd. for Ironmaking and Steelmaking.

Ironmaking and Steelmaking will continue to be published under the current editors. However, each person currently on the Editorial Board has been asked to confirm their ongoing commitment or otherwise. Inevitably, this will lead to some new Editorial Board members being appointed. It is essential that there is a balanced membership and initial discussions with SAGE have raised some interesting points which should advance the status of the journal.

Some of the latter issues of Ironmaking and Steelmaking will be larger than normal as Taylor and Francis want to allocate papers already accepted under their publishing role. There will also be an issue 50.11.

Currently we are holding discussions with the organisers of SteelSim 2023 which was held in Coventry, UK in September 2023. The intention is to approach conference authors to publish their papers in a Special Edition. This is a highly popular area of research and can cover a very wide field.

This Steel World Edition has three papers with the common theme of slags. The importance of slags cannot be understated in the metals production industries. Since the advent of continuous casting mould powders / casting slags have attracted huge attention. They are key components of the casting processes in shell formation. The safety of these products attracted a lot of attention many years ago due to fluoride contents and work has been aimed at identifying replacements with similar characteristics.

The importance of lime in steelmaking is critical and there have been some recent papers on lime characteristics – even now!!!
