Article title: Black metallurgists and the making of the industrial revolution

The original text stated that Henry Cort would have heard of the Jamaican foundry because his cousin, John Cort, arrived in Portsmouth in late November 1781. This was a misreading of the source. The principal conduit for this news in November 1781 was the Princess Royal that sailed direct to Portsmouth; not the Abby as stated in the original publication.

The author has accordingly corrected the text in the first and second paragraphs at the top of page 16 of the article.

The author has similarly clarified that Cort borrowed more money after the arrival of the Princess Royal on pages 17-18.

The timeline of events has been corrected on page 18 and page 21 has been corrected to reflect that it was the Princess Royal’s arrival that brought news of the Jamaican foundry to Portsmouth.
