Abstract

Tetramorium flavocostatum sp. nov., a member of the T. meridionale species-group, is described from central-west Iran (Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari and Isfahan Provinces). It is well characterized by a yellow body, thick and regular longitudinal rugae on the whole surface of the head and mesosoma, and occipital head with rugae arching posterolaterally. The number of Tetramorium species known to Iran is estimated at 23, but the number is expected to change following the discoveries and verification of historical records.
