Dear Members,

Season's greetings and a very happy new year!

It gives me great pleasure to express my thoughts in this issue of the Journal of Education, which is skilfully guided by Prof (Dr) Raj Senani, as he assured us at a 2022 meeting last year. Thanks to his innovative leadership, the Journal is experiencing remarkable results in attracting good papers that provide vital insights on emerging topics for scholars, members or non-members.

Although I have recently handed over the presidency of the IETE to Prof (Dr) A K Saini at the AIC convened in Pune, I am content to note that this journal has undergone substantial advancements when compared to previous years. In pursuit of his objective, Professor Senani has initiated the solicitation of high-quality papers alongside the quantity of papers, as exemplified in this edition. Sincere appreciation is extended to all the contributors and peer reviewers of the IETE Journal of Education, especially to the Editor-in-Chief.

The significant expansion of experienced editors comprising the Editorial Board is an additional benefit that attracts submissions of superior quality. The editorial guidance serves as the cornerstone for the advancement and growth of the journal. Consequently, this protects the standing of the institution. In addition to esteemed editors, the IETE Governing Council members, the IETE fraternity and other stakeholders of the institution collectively contribute considerably to the advancement of the organisation. It is essential to diligently work toward accomplishing this goal by all means possible.

Thanks to the many volunteers at different Centres, Sub-Centres, and other units, our profession continues to thrive despite the challenges it faces. Additionally, they are committed to helping all members, regardless of experience level, and they work hard to provide members with opportunity to progress in their academic and professional careers.

Here, I'd like to share some of the activities we did last year, even if it being repeated. But I think it's important to share some pound moments with the members. After signing an MoU in August 2023, the IETE Noida Centre and Gautam Buddha University created a postgraduate diploma course in Cybersecurity under Col (Dr) Bipin C Pandey (Retd). The Noida Centre signed an MoU with NIELIT to create a Centre of Excellence in Chip Design. The IETE Alumni Committee was founded by East Zone Mentor Sh R S Chauhan. The Committee worked with the IETE Alumni Registered Society and organised zonal alumni events, which the Governing Council funded. This Alumni Reunion is a big step forward. The IETE Journals received an unprecedented grant-in-aid, Rs 7.5 lakh, from the Department of Science and Technology this year. NIELIT has signed a memorandum of understanding with IETE ORG Institutions to develop “Online Examinations Centers” on a profit-sharing basis. A Memorandum of Agreement with IEEE was signed on August 20, 2023, for future collaboration. We may soon collaborate to promote our areas of interest. IEEE MAPCON 2022 in Bangalore in December gave IETE an excellent opportunity to showcase its publications and events. Another IETE chance may arise this year.

The Institution promoted its work in national and international conferences. A few examples: Functioning Glasses at IETE Kalaburagi Centre on 14 November 2022; at IETE Kalaburagi Centre on 22-24 Nov 2022, Sharnbasva University, Kalaburagi on Multi-Disciplinary Research; IEEE International Conference MAPCON in Bangalore from 12-15 Dec 2022. During 17-18 February 2023, IETE team participated & attended Broadcast Engineering Society (India) International Conference. On May 1-2, 2023, Noida Centre held an International Conference on “Cyber Threats and Security” at Galgotia University. On 03–05 May 2023, IETE Bangalore Centre and BEL hosted an International Conference on “AI &ML Driving 5G and Advanced 6G”. IETE Aurangabad Centre held an International Seminar on “Intelligent Systems, Cognitive Science and Knowledge Engineering” on 8-10 May 2023.

With the collaboration of all relevant parties, I am confident that IETE will advance in its commitment to serve the nation. We shall diligently strive to preserve the Institution's legacy.

I wish the new Governing Council Members well and am always willing to help them serve IETE.

Best wishes,

Prof V Gunasekhar Reddy

President

(2022–23)
