Abstract

This study examines the effects of stakeholder pressure and company’s orientation in shaping managers’ intentions to implementing socially responsible supplier selection. We employed a 2 x 2 full-factorial, scenario-based, role-playing experiment. Subjects were managers familiar with purchasing/supply chain topics from Brazil, the U.K., and the U.S. The hypotheses were tested using linear regression models. The findings suggest that when a company is under pressure to act in a socially responsible manner, the effect of a socially sustainable orientation on managers’ intentions to implement socially responsible supplier selection is greater.
