ABSTRACT

This research is to explore the future of fashion design education for a new generation, Gen Z. This generation, with unique characteristics, along with digitalisation and globalisation, are causing a paradigm shift in every domain. This research collected data from multiple stakeholders, industry professionals, faculty members, and students in the US. Through mixed methods, we identified three primary research aims. We reviewed opportunities utilising the ‘Co-design as CBPR (Community-Based Participatory Research) framework’, and how fashion design needs to evolve to incorporate a more user-centric, problems-focused approach. Lastly, we suggest pedagogical approaches to support ‘Co-design as CBPR’ for valuable integrated teaching and learning for future fashion design pedagogy.
