Abstract

The human civilization has undergone a significant transformation since the discovery of tools in prehistoric times, and the globalization of technology has only accelerated this evolution. Consequently, product designers and producers continually refine their creative processes to optimize their product designs, considering their customers’ unique needs and preferences. Unfortunately, the traditional craft of folk pottery has not received the recognition and appreciation it deserves. Therefore, our research aims showcase the design potential of this craft, inspiring modern product designers and producers to incorporate the distinctive conceptual qualities of this craft into their practice, contributing to its continued growth. As a result, we have employed a narrative review approach to evaluate the quality of available data, thereby augmenting its internal validity. Our research has uncovered that each folk pottery’s design concept results in aesthetic and practical objects. Nonetheless, we are deeply concerned about the sustainability of folk pottery, which could result in the loss of this cultural design practice. In conclusion, however, by examining the design concepts of folk pots, we can significantly contribute to their overall growth and preservation while simultaneously elevating them from mere cultural traditions to sophisticated and technologically advanced cultural product design innovations.
