Desertion: Selected Extracts

Abstract

In this piece Feng Kechen has compiled a selection of extracts from Desertion, Xue Yiwei’s first novel, which since its publication thirty years ago has continued to garner increasing attention among Chinese readers. As well as a short introduction by Feng Kechen, this piece features the first partial translation of Xue Yiwei’s debut into English.

Kechen Feng

Feng Kechen graduated from the Industrial Electronics Automation Department at Jiangsu University. He has worked for Mars Incorporated and Nokia in enterprise operations and project management. He is the current literary editor at Houlang Publishing House and continues to work as a supervisor in the field of electronics production. The guest editor of Xue Yiwei’s Thirty Years of Literature: A Selection (Wenxue Sanshinian Zuopinxuan 文学三十年作品选), he is also a researcher of Xue’s first published novel, Desertion.
