ABSTRACT

Researchers suggested a need to further explore training program elements that may facilitate counseling students’ researcher identity (RI). We examined the narratives of sixteen master’s counseling students regarding their counseling research methods course and found themes of anticipation, experience, and reflection. We provide implications for counselor educators to create a research methods course that acknowledges past research experiences, elicits positive feelings about research, and advocates for the RI dimension of overall counselor professional identity (CPI).
